Visit of Dr Mohammad Daraghmah, MD
St John Eye Hospital Group
Fellow in Paediatric Ophthalmology
Dr Mohammad Daraghmah was born in Nablus and now lives in the West Bank town of Ramallah. He completed his MD in Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences in Hyderabad, Pakistan, graduating in 2010. The following year he worked for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), and began his ophthalmic residency programme at St John in 2013, before progressing to the role of Junior Specialist in the paediatric and strabismus department.
In September 2019 he embarked on a Fellowship in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus in St John Eye Hospital in Jerusalem, which has a very busy clinic and operating theatres, managing all types of paediatric eye disease, including congenital cataract and squint.
In December 2019, Dr Daraghmah was sponsored by the SOA as on observer to Moorfields Eye Hospital, with a three-week timetable organised by Miss Alison Davis, Mr Jonathan Than, and colleagues. His observership was spent in three different parts of the Trust, being Moorfields Eye Hospital in City Road, St George’s Hospital, and the Homerton Hospital.
During this time, he followed a comprehensive schedule, observing a wide range of paediatric ophthalmic and strabismus cases, attending lectures, specialist clinics, theatres, screening rounds for retinopathy of prematurity, and Botulinum toxin clinics.
Dr Daraghmah finishes his report with a note of thanks to SJEHG, and his colleagues in SOA and Moorfields Eye Hospital supporting doctors and nurses at St John Hospital.
The SOA is pleased to report that Dr Daraghmah will be taking on the role of Fellow representative for the SOA, and assisting with the SOA symposium in paediatric ophthalmology in Jerusalem on April 27th.
Finally, we would like to thank our supporters*, without whom this observership would not have been possible.
* With particular thanks to the Roy and Eva Strasburger Training Foundation
