Hello. My name is Jonathan Than and I am the ophthalmic advisor for the iYouth Young Professionals for St John Eye Hospital Group. I currently work as a doctor training in ophthalmology at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

My role on the committee is to help guide the medical initiatives of iYouth, and build bridges between keen students and young healthcare professionals in the UK and those at the eye hospital in Jerusalem.

I first got involved with St John Eye Hospital when I was very generously given the opportunity to visit in 2016 by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in the United Kingdom. I was immediately struck by the world-class quality of care provided to the local population despite the incredibly challenging circumstances the hospital finds itself in, and found myself determined to enter ophthalmic training and give back in some way when I was able. As luck or fate would have it, I ended up under the supervision of Mr David Verity, Hospitaller of the Order of St John, whilst working at Moorfields who put me in touch with Goya, chair of iYouth. Now I have the opportunity to give back, and that is what I intend to do.
