Dr. Amjaad Abu Shams

Dr Amjaad Abu Shams comes from Tulkarem. She is 26 years old. She obtained her Medical Degree from Al-Najah National University where she got the honour to be ranked as the second on her medical group. Being an Ophthalmologist was her number one goal in life. She joined St. John in February 2020 and is currently doing her 2nd year of training

Dr. Islam Al-Hashash

Post Fellow Specialist – Glaucoma
Dr. Islam Al-Hashash comes from Nablus. He obtained his medical degree from Egypt. He joined the St. John Four Year Ophthalmic Residency Training Programme in 2012. He obtained his Ophthalmic Specialization in 2016. Since then he joined the St. John medical team as a Junior Specialist.

Dr. Munther Ashhab

Consultant – Phaco Surgeon
Dr Munther Ashhab joined the hospital as a Consultant phaco surgeon in February 2020 for one day a week. He also works at Shaare Zedek Hospital as a senior Ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon.

Dr. Mohammed Daraghmeh

Post Fellow Specialist – Paediatric & Strabismus
Dr Daraghmeh was born in Nablus and now lives in Ramallah. He completed his MD in Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences in Hyderabad, Pakistan, graduating in 2010. The following year he worked for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency. Dr Daraghmeh began his ophthalmic residency at St John in 2013, before progressing to the role of Junior Specialist in paediatric ophthalmology.

Dr. Waleed Abu Dayeh

Junior Consultant, Medical Retina
Dr. Waleed Abu Dayeh comes from Hebron, and completed his ophthalmic training in Ukraine. He joined St. John’s as a clinical assistant in 2006. He was seconded to Shaare Zedek Hospital in Israel in 2011 for a one-year fellowship in medical retina. In 2012, he was appointed junior consultant to SJEHG.

Dr. Omar Abdel Dayem

Consultant, Vitreoretina
Dr. Omar Abdel Dayem joined John as a resident in 2005. After completing his residency, he stayed as a junior fellow in vitreoretinal surgery. In 2011, he was accepted for a one-year fellowship in India, and was appointed junior consultant in 2012. At present he holds the post of Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon.

Dr. Salam Ereiqat

Junior Consultant – Inflammatory Eye Disease
Dr. Salam Ereiqat comes from Jericho. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Jordan, Jordan in 2006. Then she joined the St. John Eye Hospital Four Year Ophthalmic Residency Training Programme between 2008 and 2012 after which she obtained the Palestinian Board of Ophthalmology. In 2013, she joined Hadassah University Hospital for a Uveitis Fellowship and in 2018; she went to Ichilov Hospital and did Medical Retina, Uveitis and OCT Imaging Fellowship. She is currently holding the post of Retina and Uveitis Specialist.

Dr. Khadijeh Far’on

Anaesthetist
Dr. Khadijeh Far’on comes from Bethany. She obtained her Medical Degree from Al-Quds University, Palestine in 2009. She joined the Makassed Hospital for the Residency in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care and obtained her specialization in 2015. She joined the St. John Eye Hospital in Jerusalem in 2018 as a Part Time Anaesthesiologist. She also covers the Anaesthesia work at our Centre in Hebron.

Dr. Iyad Habil

Junior Consultant & Medical Director
Dr. Iyad Habil is originally from Gaza and currently resides in Jerusalem. He first joined St. John as a resident in 2002, finishing his training at Hadassah University Hospital in Israel. In 2012, he completed a one-year fellowship in external eye disease and cornea at Hadassah, and returned to St. John’s as a corneal specialist in 2013. Dr. Habil is a member of the senior clinical management team.

Dr. Mahmoud Hamoudeh

Anaesthetist
Dr. Mahmoud Hamoudeh comes from Ramallah. He obtained his Medical Degree from Kuban State Medical Academy in Krasnodar, Russia in 2005. Between 2006 and 2008, he worked as a General Practitioner. Then he joined the Makassed Hospital and obtained his specialization in Anesthesia and Intensive Care in 2013. He joined the St. John Eye Hospital as an Anesthesiologist in 2014.

Dr. Abdallah Abu Hantash

Junior Consultant, Cornea & External Eye
Dr. Abdallah Abu Hantash comes from Tulkarem. He joined St. John as a resident doctor in 2003, finishing his ophthalmic residency training at Hadassah University Hospital. He undertook a one-year fellowship in external eye disease and cornea, returning in 2012 as a corneal specialist. Dr. Abu Hantash is a member of the senior clinical management team.

Dr. Bashar Jaber

Junior Consultant – Oculoplastics
Dr Bashar Jaber comes from Nablus. He joined St. John’s ophthalmic residency program in 2006, and was soon appointed clinical assistant. He held a long-term interest in oculoplastics, learning from UK consultant Mr. Tony Tyers during his yearly visits to St. John. In 2012, Bashar went to India for a fellowship in oculoplastics, and in January 2013 he was appointed as our oculoplastic specialist.

Dr. Mohammed Maali

Consultant – Vitreoretina
Dr. Mohammed Maali comes from Jenin. He joined the St. John’s ophthalmic residency programme in 2007, staying on as a junior fellow. In 2012, he joined Hadassah University Hospital in Israel as a fellow in vitreoretinal surgery. He returned to St. John’s as a vitreoretinal specialist. Dr. Maali hold the post of Consultant Vitreoretinal Specialist as well as is our Head of Education.

Dr. Ghassan Madieh comes from Hebron. He joined St. John’s in 1995 as a resident. He trained in medical retina under the aegis of Professor Saul Merin here at St. John’s, and has been a consultant since 2010.

Dr. Raja’ Al Masri

Junior Specialist
Dr. Raja’ Al-Masri comes from Tulkarem. She obtained her Medical Degree from Al-Najjah University in Palestine. She joined the St. John Four Year Ophthalmic Residency Training Programme in 2013. She obtained her Ophthalmic Specialization in 2017 and then joined the St. John medical team as a Junior Specialist. Dr. Al-Masri is interested in Oculoplastics and is trying to plan a fellowship.

Dr. Amer Muhsen

Consultant, Glaucoma
Dr. Amer Muhsen comes from Abu Dees and completed his ophthalmic training in Ukraine. He joined St. John in 2004 as a volunteer, and was appointed as clinical assistant shortly afterwards. In 2009, he was accepted for a one-year fellowship in glaucoma in India. Dr Muhsen has been a consultant with SJEHG since 2012.

Dr. Shaddad Nasser comes from Tulkarem. He obtained his medical degree from Egypt in 2014. He joined the St John Four Year Ophthalmic Residency Training Programme in 2017. He is currently doing his third year of training.

Dr. Abdel Qader Al Murr

Resident
Dr Abdel Qader Al Murr comes from Tulkarem. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Degree from October 6 University in Egypt. He was always keen do Ophthalmology. He had his first year of Ophthalmic training outside the hospital. In June 2020 he joined the hospital as a 2nd year ophthalmic resident. Now his is doing his 3rd year of training.

Dr. Humam Rishmawi

Consultant, Paediatrics & Neuro-Ophthalmology
Dr. Rishmawi comes from Beit Sahour, and was one of the first residents at St. John in 1993. He obtained an MA from Bristol Eye Hospital, passing the FRCS in 2000. He then undertook a 2 year Fellowship in strabismus & neuro-ophthalmology in Germany, returning to St. John as a consultant. He is also an honorary clinical lecturer at Al-Quds University, where he supervises medical students visiting St. John.

Dr. Mohammed Abu Safieh comes from Tulkarem. He obtained his medical degree from Al-Najjah University, Palestine in 2015. He then worked for a short period as a Teaching and Research Assistant at the same university. He joined the St John Four Year Ophthalmic Residency Training Programme in 2018. He is currently doing his second year of training.

Dr. Ahmed Salhab comes from Hebron. He obtained his Medical Degree from the University of Alexandria in 2015. He joined the Residency training at St. John in February 2020. He is currently doing his 2nd year of training.

Dr. Ibrahim Sawalhi

Dr. Ibrahim Sawalhi comes from Ramallah. He obtained his medical degree from Bulgaria in 1993. He also completed his specialization in Ophthalmology in the same University in Bulgaria. He first joined the St. John Eye Hospital in Jerusalem in 2000 and is still holding his post. In 2006 he was sent to Soroka Hospital for some training in Oculoplastics for one year.

Dr. Issa Abu Sa’da

Consultant, Ophthalmic Anaesthesia
Dr. Issa Abu Sa’da comes from Beit Sahour. He obtained his Medical degree from the Jordan University, Amman, Jordan in 1980. He then joined an internship in the surgical department at Makassed Hospital between 1980 and 1985. He followed his passion and he specialized in Anaesthesia in 1988 from Makassed Hospital in Jerusalem. He Passed the Jordanian Board in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care in November 1988. He first Joined St. John Eye Hospital in December 1992. He then left between 1999 and 2004 and rejoined the hospital again in 2005 as a consultant until present. He also heads the Anaesthesia Department at the hospital.

Dr. Riham Shawer

Junior Specialist
Dr. Riham Shawer comes from Jerusalem. She obtained her medical Degree from Al-Quds University, Palestine in 2005. In 2012 she obtained her Ophthalmic Specialization form the Jordan University of Science and Technology, Jordan. She joined the St. John Eye Hospital in 2017 as a Junior Specialist. Dr Shawer is interested and is active in Research.

Dr. Iyad Shobaki

Anaesthetist
Dr. Iyad Shobaki comes from Ramallah. He obtained his Anaesthesia Specialization from Ramallah Hospital and Makassed Hospital. He joined the St. John Eye Hospital as a Part time Anaesthesiologist in 2015. As well as being part of the St. John Team, Dr. Shobaki is active in the Palestinian Community as he is a member of the Palestinian Society of Anesthesia and intensive Care and also a Coordinator for NYSORA peripheral nerves block ultrasound guided workshops in Palestine.

Dr. Abdallah Shtawi

Dr. Abdallah Shtawi comes from a small village in Northern Palestine called Falamia where medical care is very minimal. He decided to be a doctor to serve his village. He obtained his medical degree from Cairo University. He developed an interest in Ophthalmology since his early days of medical school as he saw his grandmother suffering from vision loss due to cataract which could have been easily solved. He joined St. John training programme in November 2020 and he is currently doing his 1st year of training.

Dr. Yahya Sweiti

Junior Subspecialist, Retina & Genetics
Dr. Yahya Sweiti comes from Hebron. He obtained his Medical Degree from the Jordan University of Science and Technology in Jordan. He worked as a general practitioner until he joined the St. John Eye Hospital Four Year Ophthalmic Residency Training Programme in 2010. In 2015, he undertook a Two Year Fellowship in Ophthalmic Genetics and Medical Retina at Hadassah Hospital where he received training in molecular biological techniques and genetic data analysis. GHe has a special interest in research and in teaching. He holds also the post of the Audit Lead at St. John.

Dr. Ala’ Talbishi

Subspecialist, Retina and Genetics
Dr. Ala’a AlTalbishi comes from Hebron. He completed his medical school at the Jordan University of Science and Technology. He also finished his ophthalmology training from Hadassah Hospital in 2014. In 2016 he joined Hadassah University Hospital and did a two year Genetics and Retinal Degenerations Fellowship. Currently he is leading the newly established Molecular Biology Research unit at the St John Eye Hospital. In December 2019, he was appointed as the Clinical Lead of St John Hebron Hospital since. Dr AlTalbishi is also the research lead of the St John Ophthalmic Association & he is the head of the scientific committee of the Palestinian Society of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Qusai Ghaleb Yousef comes from Jenin. He is 28 years old. He obtained his Medical Degree Al-Ql-Quds university. He joined our residency training in December 2020 so he is still in his 1st year of training.
