On Saturday 13th November 2021 SOA-USA met at the American Academy of Ophthalmology in New Orleans
The fifth meeting, and third St. John Ophthalmic Association USA breakfast meeting at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, was held on Saturday November 13th in New Orleans at the Westin Hotel.
The event was attended by Ophthalmology colleagues spanning the US from Massachusetts Eye and Ear /Harvard, Bascom Palmer, Mayo Clinic,University of Texas-Southwestern and Pacific Vision Foundation/San Francisco.
David Pyott OStJ, US Priory Hospitaller, Chair of the SOA/USA Chapter and Trustee of the St. John Eye Hospital Group lead the meeting. David gave an update on the current workings of the St. John Eye Hospital Group followed by a presentation by Charles Mosteller,M.D CStJ, Secretary of the SOA/USA Chapter. Charles gave a presentation on the Global Vision of the SOA International and the history and role the SOA/USA. This was followed by a video presentation by Mr. David Verity, KStJ, Hospitaller of the Order of St.John entitled “One St John” discussing the workings of the SOA International since it’s inception in 2015 as well as expanding on the International Global Mission of the SOA.
David Pyott then moderated a dialogue on the USA Chapter of the SOA and its contribution to the overall global mission of SOA International and SJEHG. David plans to discuss the points raised at the breakfast meeting with our CEO, Ahmad Ma’ali and Sir Andrew Cash, Chairman of the SJEHG when he travels to London at the end of this month.
The meeting concluded by renewing our commitment to the purpose and mission of the Order of St John. We look forward to continue being part of the great work of SOA International for the Service of the Sick and the Poor.
