Building bridges between St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group, The Johanniterorden i Sverige, and St Erik’s Eye Hospital in Stockholm
On Thursday 8th October we held our fourth meeting, this time on online, with the Swedish Order and St Erik’s Hospital.
The programme was opened by Elin Bohman, MStJ (Chair, SOA-Sweden), supported by Amelie Botling Taube & Alexander Berg (SOA-Sweden).
We were joined by Petter von Sydow (Hospitaller, Swedish Order), and Mr Otto Drakenberg (Commendator, Order of Sweden).
Our special guests included Islam Hashash from our Eye Hospital in East Jerusalem, and Prof Hari Jayaram from Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Amelie Botling Taube gave a fascinating summary of cataract and paediatric glaucoma services in Sweden, and Islam Hashash outlined the challenges of glaucoma in East Jerusalem and the West Bank.
The Stockholm-Jerusalem exchange programme was discussed, and it was resolved to establish dates for a visit of St John staff to Stockholm, and for a working surgical visit to Jerusalem.
The meeting finished with an inspirational note from Otto Drakenberg, Commendator, Order of Sweden.
We thank our partners in Sankt Erik’s Hospital and the Johanniterorden I Sverige for an excellent meeting, and look forward to developing the exchange programme and collaboration with St John Eye Hospital Group
